Course Information

The Lake Distrcit is home to some of the best and most classic rock climbs in the UK, with Napes Needle being perhaps the first recorded rock climb in the country.  The course offers the chance to spend 5 days climbing routes from the hard back book by Ken Wilson, ‘Hard Rock’.  This book presents a list of selected classic hard routes from around the UK and has become a popular selecetion of routes to attempt to complete.  The routes are chosen for historical interest, or being unusual or just really great routes.

This course is run at a 1:2 guide client ratio and aims to complete as many of these routes as possible.  As this course is run in a more ‘Guided’ style it helps if people have a little rock climbing experience to avoid too much time being spent on instruction,  it is also important to have experience of following routes at the grade of British Very Severe (VS) and above, Contact Us to discuss this.  If you are not able to follow this grade then the ‘Classic Rock’ route selection might be more appropriate?, see our ‘Classic Rock’ courses.  More info on this approach is also in Guided day or Instruction – what’s best for you.

A list with British grades of the brilliant routes on offer in the Lake District is below;

  • Scafell            – Central Buttress E1
  • Ichabod E2
  • Esk Buttress – Central Pillar           E2
  • Heron Crag – Gormenghast E1
